The Italian Carrozzeria Bertone company excelled when it designed the Giulietta Sprint Speciale (SS) for Alfa Romeo. Its beautifully curved bodywork, with long front and rear overhangs, was spectacular and exotic. Resembling the starting grid at Monza or the harbor at Portofino, the plastic insect deflector on the top of the hood was a bit out of place, but it did complete its sporty look. In fact, the long nose and tail actually hindered its performance on the track. Naturally, this was an expensive offering, and only 1,366 examples left the factory before the Giulietta SS, with its 1300 engine.
